Who We Are...

and how we can help you!

Student Financial Aid Services, Inc.

Your Trusted Advisor

Student Financial Aid Services, Inc. is a fee-based preparation and advisory company dedicated to helping America's families access the most financial aid possible to pursue their college dreams. We offer personal advice, expertise, and easy-to-use Internet utilities to make filing the college financial aid application, known as the FAFSA, quick and accurate.

We assist students and families with FAFSA advice, assistance and preparation services via a proprietary online survey and/or in the form of a one-on-one telephone consultation (or series of consultations) that can range from 25 to 50 minutes. SFAS’s advisors do all the work in preparing and completing a student’s FAFSA entirely over the phone. Either service includes a cross-check by our systems utilizing more than 450 error-checking processes.

While filing a federal student aid form is free on the U.S. Department of Education website(www.fafsa.ed.gov), the process isn’t easy. The government has stated that the 137 tax, dependency, and other financial questions can be more complicated than filing federal income tax forms. To avoid errors that could deprive a student of aid, many families turn to our trained Student Aid Advisors for assistance. We help families prepare their FAFSA correctly so they have the best opportunity for aid. For this service, we charge a modest fee.

99% of our clients recommend us. Read their comments and

The company was established in 1991 by Michael Alexander, who previously served as the Director of Financial Aid at the University of California Santa Barbara, University of Colorado Boulder and Illinois State University, as well as the President of both the California and Colorado Associations of Student Financial Aid Administrators (CASFAA).

We are a member of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) and are proud to be a Better Business Bureau (BBB) Accredited Business. We have helped hundreds of thousands of students and parents successfully prepare and file accurate federal student aid applications, enabling them to achieve one of the best investments in their future – a college education.

SFAS’s Philosophy on Service and Support

Bullet We embrace clear transparency and full disclosure that our services are optional. When a student or parent contacts one of our call centers or visits our website, they are provided with messages that clearly state the following:
Bullet The FAFSA is a free form
Bullet It can be filed online or in paper format
Bullet It can be filed without professional assistance
Bullet The website for the government’s FAFSA form is www.FAFSA.gov or www.FAFSA.ed.gov.
Bullet We provide human, professional assistance and review for each FAFSA that we prepare, and we afford all clients the opportunity to speak with a Student Aid Advisor for as long and as many times as they feel is necessary to get their FAFSA accurately completed and to answer all their financial aid questions. We realize that the FAFSA is complex and difficult for many families, and we also know that making one mistake can dramatically affect the EFC calculation and eligibility for aid, so we go to great lengths to make our client’s filings as accurate as possible.
Bullet We do not believe in assisting students or parents to ‘game’ the financial aid system. As such, we advise families to answer the FAFSA truthfully, accurately and completely. Consequently, through our accuracy verification processes, many clients realize a lower EFC but for some the EFC is increased as a result. Unlike the current FAFSA on the Web process and associated skip logic that is undermining critical data collection, we believe in gathering all the asset data for a family so that a true and accurate financial picture of the family can be determined.
Bullet We believe in assisting low income families that may not be able to afford our services. Over the past three years we have provided complimentary services to 51,000 students/parents, with our most recent program assisting 10,400 low-income families prepare their FAFSA as well as get a personal College Cost & Planning Report™. In addition, we have advised 97,000 individuals on how to access the government’s free FAFSA service or other free FAFSA support services. Our Access for All™ Program is an innovative program that has received well-documented acclaim from recipients. Please contact us to learn more about these services.
