Get the Most Student Financial Aid to Pay for College
Top 10 Tips for Getting Your Fair Share of $168 Billion

SACRAMENTO, CA - JAN. 12, 2010 - Looking for an edge in the scramble for financial aid, more students are jumping in early to get help preparing their 2010-2011 federal student aid application (FAFSA) to maximize their chances for a piece of the $168 billion now available to pay for college.

Answering this year's 130 income, asset, and dependency questions is often challenging, especially for high school seniors and their parents facing the application for the first time. Nearly everyone regardless of income or circumstances is eligible for aid from the more than 8,000 programs that offer grants, work-study, and low-interest loans.

Families Face Fierce Competition for Student Aid
Season Starts with Sharp Increase in Demand

SACRAMENTO, CA – JAN. 6, 2009 – The student financial aid season started January 1, and early indications are that competition for the estimated $144 billion of federal, state, and institutional aid is likely to be fierce in the 2009-10 academic year.

“During the first five days of the new financial aid season, we saw a more than 40 percent increase in the number of families seeking assistance compared with last year,” said Craig V. Carroll, chief executive officer of Student Financial Aid Services, Inc., the nation’s oldest and largest non- governmental student financial aid advisor. “The demand for student aid has been climbing as the recession batters family budgets, parents’ jobs are eliminated, and self-employed parents experience business downturns. Given the trend we have been seeing since November, we expect this season to break records for the number of college students competing for financial aid.”

About Us

Student Financial Aid Services, Inc. is a fee-based preparation and advisory company dedicated to helping America's families access the most financial aid possible to pursue their college dreams. Our Web site is www.fafsa.com.

We offer personal advice, expertise, and easy-to-use internet utilities to make filing the college financial aid application, known as the FAFSA, quick and accurate.

While filing a federal student aid form is free on the U.S. Department of Education website (www.fafsa.ed.gov), the process isn’t easy. The government has stated that the 137 tax, dependency, and other financial questions can be more complicated than filing federal income tax forms.

To avoid errors that could deprive a student of aid, many families turn to our trained Student Aid Advisors for assistance. We help families prepare their FAFSA correctly so they have the best opportunity for aid. For this service, we charge a modest fee.

Chief Executive Officer Craig V. Carroll leads SFAS’s experienced management team. The company was established 15 years ago by a former financial aid administrator, and we have assisted several hundred thousand families during the past three years. The company is privately held and headquartered in Sacramento, CA.

We are not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Education, its Web site (www.fafsa.ed.gov), or any other state or federal agency.

Sources of Student Aid

The federal student aid application (FAFSA) is the gateway to accessing more than $145 billion in student aid from federal and state governments, colleges, employers, and private organizations to help ease the burden of paying for college.
