Overview
Founded in 1890, the University of North Texas (UNT) was originally named the Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute. The university's name changed six times through the years, and the present name was selected in 1989. UNT is the largest university in North Texas, and with over 34,000 students, has the third largest enrollment in the state. The public suburban university offers degrees in 11 schools and colleges, and is located on 860 acres in Denton, Texas, at the northern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
